How I’m Reducing my Babies' Risk of Food Allergies While Pregnant!

As a Holistic Nutritionist who used food and lifestyle to help me heal my autoimmune disease and debilitating hormone imbalances, I have seen first hand how incredible food is! Not only did I experience this first hand, but I see it in my clients every day!

SO! Since being pregnant, I've been focusing on using food to help me feel my best and help me grow the healthiest little Crunchy Baby possible!

I was a sick baby, child, teenager, and adult until I took control and changed my diet and lifestyle. I don’t want my children to feel the way I felt growing up. I don’t want them to feel the pain, suffering and day after day misery that being chronically sick comes with.

As a mama-to-be, I want to do everything I can to give my baby the best chance at amazing health and happiness, like any mama or mama-to-be!!

What I'm Doing While Pregnant to Reduce my Babies Risk of Food Allergies

Its simple!!

I have been doing in utero exposure to common food allergens to reduce the baby's risk of food allergies later in life! This study talks about in utero exposure having a preventive effect of peanut and milk allergies! There are so many other studies looking at other food and why this really helps reduce the risk of food allergies!

What is in-utero exposure of food mean?

It means the food you eat when you are pregnant!

I have specifically been eating high quality, common allergenic foods to help reduce my babies risk!

What Foods Have I Been Eating?!

Organic Peanut Butter

I make these delicious chocolate peanut butter smoothies to help me get in my peanuts! I aim to have 4-5 servings of organic peanut butter a week, with 1 tbsp being 1 serving!

My favorite brand of organic peanut butter is Nuts to You!

My favorite brand of chocolate protein powder is Genuine Health Vegan Fermented Chocolate Protein! Get 10% off here!!

Organic Water Buffalo Cheese

I love to have a slice at lunch! I try and get in about 3-4 inches a week!

My favorite brand of organic water buffalo cheese is Hope Eco-Farms from Elgin Country.

Grass Fed, Pasture Raised Butter

This is so delicious spread over my homemade everything cassava bagels! I eat this as I feel called to do so!

My favorite brand of grass fed pasture raised butter!

Organic, Pasture Raised Eggs

Oh I eat these in many different ways! My top favorite is poached or fried! Yum! Look out for that dark orange yolk, that's how you know your egg is nutrient dense and high quality! I aim to eat these eggs twice a week!

My favorite brand of nutrient dense eggs is Vita Eggs!

Organic Sprouted Nuts & Seeds

I eat these by the handful, bring them on the go with me as a snack and top my smoothie bowl with them! I get these in daily since they are a staple for me but aiming for 4 times a week would be great!

My favorite brand is nuts and seeds that are a great price and come in a sealed package! This reduces the amount of oxidation the nuts and seeds have when you purchase them!

Wild Caught Fish & Shellfish

Also delicious for dinner with my husband! Prioritizing pregnancy safe, wild fish and seafood is a must in our house! I aim for 3 times a week but that can be hard some weeks. Realistically I am able to have fish 1-2 times a week!

BUT What about Wheat and Gluten?

I am celiac so I definitely have not been having gluten! Wheat and gluten is a top allergen but would do more harm than good to me and baby if I were to eat it. I don't stress about this since it's out of my control! We pregnant mamas don't need extra stress, we need to be kinder and more compassionate to ourselves!

If you are able to eat wheat or gluten then I would suggest aiming for no more than 2 servings a week and please ensure you are eating organic, sprouted/fermented gluten or wheat!

Tips!

  1. High quality is super important! Don't compromise on quality, especially when pregnant!

  2. Don't stress about it! Keep these foods on hand so you are more likely to eat them!

  3. Every bit of these foods that you eat reduces your baby's risk of food allergies!

  4. Make these foods part of delicious recipes so you don't mind eating them!
